Discover the groundbreaking exploration of populism with "Populism in the Civil Sphere". This essential book delves into the complexities of populism, challenging conventional wisdom and offering a fresh perspective on its role in the modern democratic landscape. Published by John Wiley & Sons (UK) in 2020, this volume consists of 316 pages packed with insightful analysis and research. It argues that populism is not merely a deviation from democracy but rather an inherent aspect of civil dynamics, presenting both challenges and opportunities for democratic societies. By examining the polarizing effects of both left and right populism, this work sheds light on the anxiety surrounding civil solidarity and the perceptions of the civil sphere among different political ideologies. Ideal for students, scholars, and anyone interested in contemporary political discussions, this book invites readers to reconsider normative judgments surrounding populism. Description:
Even as the specter of populism haunts contemporary societies, scholars have not been able to agree about what it is. Except for one thing: a deviation from democracy, the source, it seems, of the precarious position in which so many societies find themselves today. This volume aims to break the Gordian knot of śpopulismť by bringing a new social theory to bear and, in so doing so, suggesting that normative judgments about this misunderstood phenomenon need to be reconsidered as well. Populism is not a democratic deviation but a naturally occurring dimension of civil sphere dynamics, fatal to democracy only at the extremes.   Because populism is highly polarizing, it has the effect of inducing anxiety that civil solidarity is breaking apart. Left populists feel as if civil solidarity is an illusion, that democratic discourse is a fig leaf for private interests, and that the social and cultural differentiation that vouchsafes the independence of the civil sphere merely reflects the hegemony of narrow professional interests or those of a ruling class. Right populists share the same distrust, even repulsion, for the civil sphere. What seems civil to the center and left, like affirmative action or open immigration, they call out as particularistic; honored civil icons, such as Holocaust memorials, they trash. How can the sense of a vital civil center survive such censure from populism on the left and the right?   Populism in the Civil Sphere provides compelling answers to these fundamental questions. Its contributions are both sophisticated theoretical interventions and deeply researched empirical

An immature take on Peter Parker only suitable for the most immature reader
Format: Kindle
Someday, Marvel Comics won't be controlled by white male Boomers/GenXers who make Peter Pan look well adjusted and who incessantly try to recapture a childhood that never actually existed while believing women have cooties and adult relationships are icky. But until then, we get Amazing Spider-Man by Joe Kelly, whose writing is the living embodiment of the Steve Buscemi "How do you do, my fellow kids" meme.
This run is boring, trite and cliched. You could probably get a more insightful and original story by asking ChatGPT to write one for you. The only thing going for the run - so far - is that Kelly at least isn't outright aggressively antagonizing the reader unlike the previous writer. It's just...bland and mediocre.

Great delivery, great price, great book!
Format: Hardcover
Must have for any Batman/DC comics fan. I’m not much of an art snob, but the pictures in this book are stunning. The story is wonderful.

Solid Omnibus
Format: Hardcover
This omnibus collects some of the best stories for batman fans. The hard cover at first glance is bland and seems like an after thought but can easily be overlooked. Its a black cardboard material similar to the omnis that DC keeps dishing out non stop. Keep the dust jacket on after reading and it will look great on your shelf. The binding is similar to the new omnis coming out recently from DC and it stays flat when reading and isnt tight. Its a sewn binding and I havent had any issues. As far as the pages go their not too thin and not too thick. The colors really come out and the shades of black really look well done and you can tell they didnt just reprint. There was some thought that went into this. There are some really cool extras in the back which makes up for the overall price. In all this is a giant collection of some awesome stories and my review is a little all over but you want a reason why its 5 stars.

Looking for the perfect gift for a Batman fan? Get this!
Format: Hardcover
Before you buy this for a Batman fan, please make sure they already own it :) This collection is amazing, and it's perfect for a Batman fan that may appreciate a nice high-quality graphic novel featuring their favorite hero.
This story features some of the best storylines in the history of Batman, and personally, I LOVE the art style.
This is the PERFECT starter book for a fan of the Batman movies, shows, and games. Many fans who don't collect or read comics feel that way because following the single issue releases of ongoing comic series can be difficult and confusing.
This collection includes several complete stories that serve as an amazing starting point for any comic or Batman fan.
