Colonialism is the policy whereby a nation seeks to gain authority over other peoples or territories. The subjugated people are generally exploited for the economic benefit of the colonizing country.

Colonialism is played in game turns. The heart of the game turns are the Action Rounds. In each Action Round a player either draws 3 cards, moves a ship, withdraws influence discs, explores a region or plays an influence card from his hand. Influence cards are either Action or Policy cards. Action cards are played and immediately resolved in an affected region on the board. Policy cards are placed in the player´s colonial policy area and are not resolved until the end of the next colonization phase. As these cards are normally placed face down, there is a fair amount of bluffing and suspense.

There is hardly any downtime in Colonialism. Individual player turns are short and swift. The game is very elegant without a lot of "rules overhead". It also scales well - any player numbers from 2 to 4 are fine. Thanks to the art of the always amazing Harald Lieske Colonialism is a "serious" look into this chapter of recent history in game form.

So what is new in this edition? The main items in this new edition are the 6 new cards, five of them being Upgrade cards. This edition therefore adds a new action to the game: Purchase an Upgrade card.

This is an English language edition being produced in Europe. It is EU and US Friendly...

Game Play:

Colonialism is a game of 19th and early 20th century imperialism. Each of the 2 to 4 players assumes the role of a nondescript colonial power. Players will try to gain influence in the unindustrialized regions of the game board and to obtain as many resources as possible. Although the colonial powers are anonymous in the game, Colonialism aims to be a serious, though abstract, look at this dark chapter in recent world history.
What makes Colonialism special?

In the game, each player has their own deck of 24 influence cards. The decks of all players are identical. 7 of the 24 cards are action cards that are played and immediately resolved. The other 17 cards are policy cards that are played face down to one of the six regions of the game board. All policy cards are only resolved in the colonialism phase of a game turn. These cards increase or decrease a player's influence. This innovative mechanic is exciting, suspenseful and reduces downtime.

The Reality of Colonialism:

Throughout history, colonizing powers would often justify their actions under the guise of improving the colonized people's health, economic, religious, or social wellbeing. Euphemistically, this systemic process of exploitation was referred to as "modernizing." Modern colonialism began in the 15th century. By the outbreak of World War I, Spain, Portugal, Britain, France, the Netherlands, Germany and other European countries had gained control of 84% of the globe. Typically, the European Powers followed a policy of mercantilism, to strengthen the home economy at the expense of rivals. The colonies were allowed to trade only with the mother country. Raw materials would flow freely from the colonized areas to the homeland, while the colonizing power could take advantage of their total monopoly and use their colonies as an export market for their overpriced good and wares.

Cute chew toy for smaller dogs!
Color: Red, Color: Red
Soooo my new puppy Dottie was continually eating my favorite pair of crocs by sneaking into my closet. To solve this issue I thought I would buy her her own chewy croc and actually found one on Amazon! lol The chew toy is actually heavy and weighted and the material is hard enough for an effective teething toy but soft enough for the puppy to play with! My little Weeney dog loved it the second I took it out of the package! The fake croc chew toy is a very cute design with a fun, bright color. The chew toy material is constructed of durable rubber and will last a long time. I didn't like that it doesn't make noise and is small.. I believe it is better suited for smaller breads to use which was perfect for my puppies needs.

You should have one on standby.
Color: Yellow, Color: Yellow
This product was great for my teething Bully puppy, she, is an aggressive chewer. It gave her relief and kept her busy. In the 6 or 7 weeks that we've had it, it stood the test of time. She would chew 10 or 15 minutes at a time and nap from exhaustion. Overall, several hours of chewing. I must say this toy is not indestructable. In the end it was necessary to remove it and substitute another toy. The bully on the picture looks like a twin of my own pup. I did remove loose slivers and pieces that could be chewed off immediately. I am attaching a pic of the pre-disposal remnants for clarity. This is a tough toy but again, not indestructible.

Bought for my 8 month old lab. Dog toy said for aggressive chewers. Wrong! Super cute and feels heavy duty, but not for aggressive chewers.

Good for aggressive chewers!
Color: Blue
Smelled awful out of the package and it's way heavier that I expected, but it's one of the only toys that my puppy has not shredded to pieces.

Solid Toy NOT For Small Breeds
Color: Blue, Color: Blue
Bought this for my Pug puppy because he's always chewing on our shoes and dragging them outside and in every which direction. He doesn't really damage them, it's more of just a pain to chase him around and try and actually get the shoe from him because he thinks we're playing. So, I looked on Amazon for a shoe toy and found this. It has a decent rating of 4.2 stars currently and it looks pretty sturdy. Well, when I got it, I realized that it's VERY sturdy. In fact, it's too sturdy; at least for a smaller breed like a pug. I know in the title is says for medium to large dogs, but when I looked at the demensions I thought it would be fine for him. He played with it for a few minutes, but it's just too big and VERY heavy for him. I was actually surprised how heavy it was. So, I decided to weigh it on a scale I have and it came out to 0.83 pounds. I actually thought it would read heavier than that (at least a pound), but that's what the scale said and I did it twice to be sure. So, if you have a small dog like a Pug, I wouldn't recommend this. Definitely a great toy for a German Shepherd or something in that category because of how heavy and thick it is. I'm guessing, even with a large breed of dog, this toy is probably going to last a long time. There's also a hole in the top where you can put peanut butter (or some kind if dog friendly treat) inside, which is really cool. I tried that with him as well, but he just wasn't interested. He's more into the Kong plushies. Anyway, in all, it's a pretty good product. Just not for a small breed dog. I'm giving it 4 stars. As you can see from the photos I uploaded, it's a rather small toy, but it's very solid and chunky. I also took a few pictures with a Pilot G2 pen next to it to better judge the size. Would buy from this seller again though if they had other toys for smaller breed dogs. Thank you. 💟 Sarah 💟
