MIKKELSEN, Ejnar. Two Against the Ice … Translated from the Danish by Maurice Michael. London, Rupert Hart-Davis, [1955].

8vo. Original boards with illustrated dust-wrappers (not price-clipped); pp. 224, sketch map and plates after photographs; very light rubbing to the rarely seen wrappers, minimal offsetting from endpapers, otherwise remarkably clean and fresh.

First edition in English (and not the Travel Book Club edition) of a classic tale of survival by an unheralded but important figure in the history of Arctic exploration. 'In 1910 he [Mikkelsen] decided to search for the diaries of the ill-fated Mylius-Erichsen expedition, which had set out to prove that Robert Peary’s outline of the East Greenland coast was a myth, erroneous and presumably self-serving. Iver Iversen was a mechanic who joined Mikkelsen in Iceland when the expedition’s boat needed repair. Several months later, Mikkelsen and Iversen embarked on a journey during which they would suffer virtually every travail in the Arctic repertoire: implacable cold, scurvy, starvation, frostbite, snow blindness, plunges into icy seawater, Sisyphean sledging conditions, Vitamin A poisoning, debilitated dogs, apocalyptic storms, gaping crevasses, and assorted mortifications of the flesh. Mikkelsen’s diary was eaten by a bear. Three years of this, coupled with seemingly no hope of rescue, would drive most crazy, yet the two retained both their sanity and their humor. Indeed, what may have saved them was their refusal to become as desolate as their surroundings' (blurb of the first US edition of 2003).

Mouse Pad Charger
Color: Black-27.5"x11.8"
I absolutely love the mouse pad. It fits my 17.3 inch laptop nicely and my mouse. It's great for charging my phone next to me while I work. Unfortunately, it does not work for the Air Pods. It must be for an older version. Nonetheless, it's still a great buy.

A good product
Color: Black-27.5"x11.8"
Size is accurate and this is important in my situation as I use a pull out key tray and wanted edge to edge coverage. Depth is good but in my case I would have liked a deeper dimension as an option. Phone charger works well, the mouse slides smoothly

Will not charge your phone
Color: Black-Stock Market-31.5"x15.8"(with Wall Charger)
I love this mat, but it doesn't do what it says... I bought this mat for the candlesticks! The charging station was a bonus. It is very large and covers my working area, which I like. But when I go to charge my phones, it doesn't work! I placed my Android phone on the magnetic charging circle, and it showed the lightning bolt charging icon. I looked at it 5 minutes later to see how much it charged, and it was at the same % when I put it on, and the lightning bolt was gone. I tried three times, and it never charged! I then tried with my Apple phone, and the same thing, it doesn't charge. Buy this for the mat's aesthetics only; don't expect it to charge phones or earbuds...

Not sturdy, practical, or worth the price.
Style: TREE
Very cheap, unsteady. Thin material, feels like it will snap with very little pressure. Does not stand up well, so when I place jewelry on it (2 very small pendants on thin solver chains), it tips over, making it not very functional or practical. It also is short, so even short chains fall onto the table (no tray below). I could have gotten a better one at Five Below for less. Really disappointed.
