De bekende Schotse predikant Samuel Rutherford behandelt het Bijbelgedeelte Johannes 12:27-33 uitvoerig in een aantal preken in 'De verhoogde Christus'. Het gaat daarin over de thematiek van de onderwerping van de gelovige onder de afwezigheid van Christus. Op de hem kenmerkende wijze legt Rutherford daarin onder meer uit wat de protestantse leer over dit thema zegt. Ook weerlegt hij de opvattingen van de de antinomianen en arminianen. Het werk is in het Nederlands vertaald door Ruth Pieterman en voorzien van een inleiding van ds. J.A. Kloosterman. Vanwege de omvang wordt dit werk in twee delen uitgegeven. De verschijning van deel B staat D.V. gepland in het najaar van 2023.
