Deze mand is gemaakt van de doum palm, die groeit in droge, rotsachtige streken. Marokko is gezegend met een rijke en gevariëerde flora, waardoor vlechtwerk van o.a. manden een oeroude stiel is, die van generatie op generatie wordt doorgegeven. Waar de artisans vroeger steeds mannen waren, zijn dit tegenwoordig meestal vrouwen.
