Elke klankschaal is met aandacht en vakmanschap met de hand gehamerd. Het maken van deze schalen is een zorgvuldig proces waarin verschillende stadia doorlopen worden om de juiste vorm en een heldere toon te bereiken.

De klankschaal bestaat uit een samengaan van metalen als koper, tin, ijzer, lood, goud en zilver. Voor de bronzen schalen vormen koper en tin de hoofdbestanddelen, vaak met kleine toevoegingen van de andere metalen voor de zeven metalen schalen. Het gesmolten metaal wordt in mallen gegoten en in schijven van verschillende diameters en diktes gesneden. Vervolgens worden deze schijven met de hand gehamerd tot de juiste vorm en grootte, na precieze afstemming van gewicht en maat.

Vijf schijven worden op elkaar gelegd en tot roodgloeiend verhit in de oven. Daarna worden ze één voor één met een mal in een komvorm gehamerd. Alleen als het metaal heet genoeg is, kan het vakmanschap haar werk doen, want bij afkoeling wordt het metaal broos en kwetsbaar. Na de grove vorm begint het fijne afwerkingsproces, waarbij de schaal opnieuw roodgloeiend verhit wordt en met veel precisie verder gevormd en gehamerd wordt om die heldere klank te creëren. Tot slot worden de schalen van binnen en buiten zorgvuldig geschuurd, gepolijst en eventueel met beitels bewerkt voor de laatste details.
