The Shift 2 maintains the functionality of the original Shift. A full alpine toe for skiing down & pin tour set up for heading up. If you have used the Original Shift, the Shift 2 will feel very familiar but with some great improvements.
The Shift 2 brings a whole new level of durability, power, versatility and reliability to the Hybrid binding category. Still maintaining a respectable weight (920g) Atomic have done well to pack a healthy amount more metal into the toe in the form of the Power Block inserts that improve the adjustability of the toe height and power transfer of the toe piece.
We have spent a fair bit of time riding the Shift and Shift 2 and rate it. They provide excellent power transfer and there are definitely moments that you forget you are riding touring bindings at all. They ski well and tour excellently.
Of course, if multi-day mega hikes are your thing there are definitely lighter options out there. It is lightweight for a freeride setup, 900 odd grams is a fair bit for a true touring setup. Definitely falls within the crossover alpine touring segment of the market.
