Blackmagic Design ATEM 2 M/E Constellation HD

The ATEM 2 M/E Constellation HD is the mid-range powerhouse of the Constellation HD line. It offers double the I/O of the 1 M/E model while remaining in a compact 1RU chassis, making it arguably the most popular choice for mobile production racks and corporate AV fly-packs in 2026.

It strikes a perfect balance between high-end layering capabilities and physical portability, providing a "big switcher" feel without taking up massive rack space.

Core Functionality & I/O

  • 20 Standards-Converted Inputs: Features 20 3G-SDI inputs, each with its own dedicated hardware converter. You can feed it a mix of 720p, 1080i, and 1080p sources from different cameras or laptops, and the switcher will automatically normalize them to your project rate.

  • 12 Independent Aux Outputs: Includes 12 3G-SDI outputs that are fully routable. This is ideal for sending unique feeds to different destinations, such as a localized program for a "clean feed" (no graphics), independent monitors for presenters, or specialized feeds for streaming encoders.

  • 2 Mix Effects (M/E) Rows: The "2 M/E" architecture allows you to create two separate program mixes. You can use one M/E to build a complex layered look for a broadcast and the second M/E to provide a simplified "IMAG" feed for the big screens in a live venue.

Advanced Creative Tools

  • SuperSource Processing: Unlike the smaller 1 M/E model, the 2 M/E includes a powerful SuperSource multi-layer processor. This provides 4 additional DVE layers plus a background, allowing you to create complex "multi-box" layouts (like 4-person interviews) without using up your standard M/E keyers.

  • 8 ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyers: With 4 keyers per M/E, you can create sophisticated virtual sets or multi-layered compositions with high-quality transparency and edge control.

  • Dual Multi Views: Includes two independent 3G-SDI multiview outputs. Each can be configured to show 4, 7, 10, 13, or 16 views, giving you a total of 32 simultaneous monitoring windows.

Operational Insight (2026)

The ATEM 2 M/E is a "Swiss Army Knife" for live events. Its USB-C Webcam Output remains a critical feature in 2026, allowing it to act as a high-end video interface for hybrid events.

  • Emergency Control: The front panel features a small 2.2-inch LCD and a set of control buttons. While not meant for complex switching, it is a lifesaver for troubleshooting or performing basic emergency cuts if your software control computer crashes.

  • Talkback & Tally: It supports full professional talkback via a front-mounted 5-pin XLR headset jack or a rear RJ12 connector for standard intercom systems like ClearCom.

Pro Tip: Because this unit packs 20 inputs and 12 outputs into 1RU, it can generate significant heat. Always ensure there is at least a half-unit of "breathable" space above or below it in your rack to prevent the internal fans from working at 100% during a long broadcast.

A great tie-in to the Disney parks
Format: Paperback
Welcome to the Black Spire Outpost on Batuu! I haven't been yet, but you may have if you've recently visited Disney World or Disney Land. There's obviously a lot of references to how the actual park looks. The cover featured the Millenium Falcon just like the actual attraction. This graphic novel tells one story focusing on one of the original characters made for the parks: Dok-Ondar. Within the big story there are four smaller tales being retold. Han Solo deals with a baby sarlacc. Greedo's ego is showcased. Hando comes in contact with the Guardians of the Whills. And, Doctor Aphra travels to the Sith Homeworld of Moraband. Each of these stories show off different aspects of the park that you can see for yourself if you go in person. This is what Star Wars does so well, making connections and building a big lived-in world. There are plenty of wonderful references. Ki-Adi-Mundi and Chirrut are just two of my favorites. Dok-Ondar is the true star of this book. He's an underworld mastermind. I give this book a 3.5/5. It's full of fun stories with connections to the park and featured characters from different eras. This definitely is a tie-in story, though.

Good point of entry into Star Wars comics
Format: Paperback
I love Star Wars and have been enjoying seeing the expanded universe. Honestly, sometimes the focus on Jedis and Siths is a bit of a distraction from understanding what life would be like in that galaxy.

Great set of stories that ties in many of your favorite charecters
Format: Paperback
A simple yet great set of stories that tie in many of your favorite characters into the Galaxy's Edge/Baatu environment. I am not a huge comic reader, but I did very much enjoy. It is a quick read overall.

Worth a read in preparation for visiting Disney
Format: Paperback
Probably not the greatest Star Wars story but entertaining and ties in nicely if you are visiting Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge
