If I had to guess, it is from the either the genus Styrax of the Styracaeae or from the genus Myroxylon (That gives us Peru Balsam.). It truly has the qualities of both benzoin and Peru Balsam. This resin is alluring and sensual. It has a musky aroma with hints of vanilla balsam and plain earthiness.

It is quite different than Benzoin sumatra or Benzoin tonkinensis and not as sweet as either. This resin can be used on charcoal or in an incense heater.
