INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to the Plan & Place Concrete into Prepared Formwork or Foundations course. This course only includes a challenge assessment designed to assess your knowledge and skills required to demonstrate competence in planning concrete placement, preparing placement areas, receiving concrete deliveries, placing and consolidating concrete, checking levels and completing screeding, clean-up and equipment maintenance requirements.
Planning and placing concrete into prepared formwork or foundations involves interpreting placement specifications, confirming site conditions, calculating concrete quantities, preparing the work area, selecting plant, tools, equipment and PPE, and coordinating safe concrete delivery and discharge. In real workplace practice, this skill area is important because concrete must be placed safely, at the correct volume, level, grade and consistency, and managed to prevent segregation, shortfalls, poor consolidation, access issues and quality defects.
The course assessment focuses on your ability to interpret placement specifications; assess the worksite; plan work to meet safety, environmental and workplace requirements; calculate concrete quantities and pour time; select and check plant, tools, equipment and PPE; prepare placement areas, access, debris removal and waste clearance; control hazards with signage and barricades; manage placement near existing structures; receive concrete, check dockets and slump tolerance; direct delivery vehicles and monitor discharge; place concrete in layers, control vertical drop, consolidate by compaction or vibration, check levels against datum, screed to required levels and grades, manage shortfalls, clean up and maintain equipment.
By successfully completing this course assessment, you will have demonstrated that you can plan and place concrete into prepared formwork or foundations by interpreting specifications, confirming site and placement requirements, calculating volumes, preparing safe work areas, managing concrete delivery and discharge, placing, consolidating and screeding concrete to required levels and grades, addressing shortfalls and completing workplace clean-up and equipment maintenance requirements.
